Parc de la Ciutadella, a green lung a few meters from the sea. Some years ago Parc de la Ciutadella was the only public park in Barcelona while today is a meeting point of locals and tourists.

With more than 17 hectares, this park was built on a former citadel ordered by Carlos V. Apart from being a park, it is an open-air museum that counts with sculptures of artists such as Frederic Marès, Josep Clarà or Eusebi Arnau. In Parc de la Ciutadella there is also Museu Zoològic de Barcelona and the entrance to Zoo de Barcelona.

The biodiversity is one of the most important characteristics of the park. It counts with species like tilias, magnolias, banana trees and palms and different specimens of the catalogue of trees of local interest such as the Louisiana orange tree and an Australian pine.

In Ciutadella, many leisure and sport events are celebrated. For example, the program ‘Activa’t als parcs’ organise every Tuesday and Thursday from September to July walks and free classes of tai chi and qigong. In August every Thursday at 9pm different artists will offer a concert. The next one is the concert of the piano player Blai Mañer.
