Gran Teatre del Liceu
  • East Route

The Gran Teatre del Liceu is one of the symbols of the city. Created in 1847 to host opera on the Barcelona's Ramblas a fire destroyed the auditorium and the stage, causing a great emotional impact on Catalan society. Years later, it was rebuilt reflecting the appearance of the original, but equipped with highly advanced technical installations and extended to take in neighbouring plots on the Ramblas. The new theatre opened its doors on 7 October 1999.
