Plaça dels Països Catalans
The Plaça dels Països Catalans ("Catalan Countries Square") was inaugurated in 1983 and was designed by architects Helio Piñón and Albert Vilaplana. Its design was controversial, as it was the Barcelona's first "hard" square, meaning one without any vegetation. Nevertheless, a year later, it was honoured with a FAD award for its design. Today, it is popular with skateboarders, who take advantage of its rails and benches for their acrobatic jumps and moves.
