From the 22nd to the 25th Barcelona is celebrating La Merce, one of the most important popular festivals in the city. Barcelona is dressing up to pay tribute to its patron saint: the Virgin of Mercy –Verge de la Merce. The main celebration of the Catalan capital offers a wide variety of cultural events for all tastes and ages.

Both of Barcelona City Tour routes will cover all the most important points of the festival. During these days the buses will continue operating with the habitual frequency in order to allow our customers move around the city to discover the activities that take place at every corner.

Performances to promote Catalan culture stands out from the scheduled activities of this festival; for example, ‘gralla’ –a traditional double reed woodwind instrument– and ‘trabuc’ –weapon similar to the tromblon– shows which take place at Plaça de la Merce (stops 4 of the West Route and 4 of the East Route), giants and big-heads’ dances, exposition of the dragons and fire beasts and projections on the façade of the City Hall at Plaça de Sant Jaume (stop 2 of the East Route), and other traditional performances such as ‘sardanas’ –traditional dances– and ‘castellers’ –human towers.

Apart from the traditional events, the concerts are also very important. La Merce presents a diverse line-up with first-class groups and artists such as Ramon Mirabet and Love of Lesbian, playing at the beach festival Mediterraniament: Festa a la Platja (stop 7 of the East Route); Manu Chao, Alfonso de Vilallonga and La Gran Pegatina at Tots els sons de la Merce festival (stop 9 of the East Route) and many more.
