A Christmas in Barcelona cannot be understood without the ‘Fira de Santa Llucia’, a traditional Christmas market which this year celebrates its 230th anniversary. If you have not visited it yet, do not miss it! Take the city official tourist bus, Barcelona City Tour and visit this charming market. You have time until 23rd of December.
In this market you will find a whole host of Christmas items: from figures for the Nativity scene, to Christmas trees, and of course the Catalan traditional tions, wooden trunks decorated with legs and painted funny faces. Traditionally, tions are fed by the kids during the days leading up to Christmas, until Christmas’s Eve or Christmas Day, when the tió ‘poos’ presents.
Fira de Santa Llucia, with its more than 280 stands, will allow you to buy the most representative Christmas instruments, like friction drums or tambourines; also decorative items for your Christmas tree and your whole home. To sum up, all you may need to enjoy the Christmas season.
From Avinguda de la Catedral, you can arrive to Plaça Sant Jaume, where you will find the City Hall, and during these days, the traditional Nativity scene, installed every year with a different design. This year, it has been installed a set with nine transparent spheres inspired by the poem “Ho sap tothom i es profecia” by Josep Vicenç Foix, as a tribute to this celebrated Catalan author.
If you want to go to this zone, you can take Barcelona official tourist bus. The stop Catedral-Gòtic of the East route (green) will approach you to both Fira de Santa Llicia and Plaça Sant Jaume.
Do not miss the opportunity and enjoy Barcelona Christmas atmosphere. With the Hop-on Hop-off service you will be able to get on and off the bus as many times as you want to see the attractions with more detail, make your Christmas shopping or stroll around the city.
Merry Christmas!
